going to try to get a workout in today... but already feelin' the headache coming back... trying to up my water intake and keep my neck and shoulders relaxed. its frustrating not feeling able to get back on track.
the gals in my belly dance troupe said something really nice last weekend though. they all seem to think i'm losing weight. the scale doesn't say so... and my pants don't say so - but i'll take it! i just want to be healthy and strong.

Busy BUSY week so far.... gone from home Monday 6a through 10p and Tuesday 7a through 9p so workout and diet definitely fell to the wayside. I enjoy spending time with my family and eating with them as well - but it is challenging to maintain a diet with so much pasta involved :) Basically I've encounted an epic failure this week in my diet and crashed and burned with the Halloween candy this afternoon.

Monday was the first day back to it after a two week break... and I'm glad I'm back! Our gym is doing a Nutrition Challenge (started last week October 12th) encouraging everyone to eat either Zone or Paleo so we can see improved performance, health, food intake, etc.

Really putting forth the effort now. After a testing appointment with my doctor yesterday - I've come to realize I'm getting older and need to focus on eating right, maintaining good physical health & mental health.
Between all of these things - YES they are time consuming but you HAVE to make the effort so you can progress. I really enjoyed tonight because I was able to focus on some really important things in my life: wellness, my relationship, me time and really trying to find my overall happiness. This was found through: me time - Target run and writting a hand written note, wellness: Dan & Christy workout - FUN!, conversation and relaxing time together including going out on a dinner date and catching up on our favorite shows. WONDERFUL.

Boy, this week sure did FLY by! Since my rib/shoulder/back thing has been bothering me I haven't done too much crossfit this week as I've been nursing it while trying to test it too. And while I wasn't Crossfitting, I didn't do much diary entering either so I'm kind of behind. The long and the short of it are that I did Zone pretty well this week with the exceptions of some homemade chicken noodle soup (with TONS of chicken) and Dan's faulter to Rosati's thin crust pizza with sausage and green peppers :)

What a crazy way to start the week!! Had a dog sitting job last night till this morning, worked, went to CF 2260 for the deadly workout: FRAN, hit home to shower and eat and off to choir! I'm amazed I was able to spend an hour here at some point today.
CF 2260 workout of the day: FRAN (1st time trying) and I thought I wasn't gonna make it. A 35lbs bar was incredibly heavy for me since I haven't been consistent and today was my DAY 1 back to exercise. But none-the-less, I couldn't have completed it without the amazing support of my boyfriend Dan, (who manages to deal with my abilities to be a PITA when it comes to working out, especially a workout AS HARD as Fran) and all the people at CF 2260.
So, I accomplished it, I completed it and she kicked my butt! I'm sure I'll be feeling this for a while.... It took what felt like, forever, especially because the last person done before me was at 8 minutes... so another 4 minutes, all alone for Christy. BUT I COMPLETED IT. I know what Fran feels like and what I'll have to do in order to get that time down... which I will.
CF: Fran 12.43
21-15-9 Thrusters (35lbs)
21-15-9 Band Assisted Pull Ups
Breakfast: strawberry, blueberry & cashew protein shake (doesn't taste so great 16 hours later from the fridge)
Lunch: 2 cups Chicken Minestrone (1 meal left of this big boy!)
Snack: 2oz deli ham and colby jack cheese and 1/4 cup hummus and bell peppers
Dinner: Pasta, peppers and sauce (left over from Dan's sausage and peppers yesterday, but the pasta carbs were SO GOOD after that workout)
Snack: 2 oz deli ham and colby jack cheese, 1/2 pink lady apple, 6 almonds

So... my boyfriend Dan has been trying out this new Paleo Diet thing. It's pretty cool because now there isn't much motivation to eat bad, if I do - it's all self blame.
Been eating really strict Zone again, although never really stopped we just indulged on junk foods a little more frequently. So I guess, to keep me on track I'll continue my diet and exercise diary, again :)
CF: off, but intense intermediate belly dance tonight
Breakfast: strawberry blueberry & cashew vanilla protein shake
Lunch: 2 cups of delicious Zone style Chicken Minestrone
Snack: 2 oz deli ham and colby jack cheese, 1 cup grapes, 6 cashews
Dinner: 2 oz chicken breast, 1/4 cup hummus and bell peppers
Snack: 2 oz deli ham and colby jack cheese, 1/2 an apple and 6 cashews
Man... but I've been starving all day long! One of a couple of things I can think of...
1. didn't eat after 6p last night
2. I haven't had nearly enough water today
3. getting back into the exercise
So we'll see how I hold up over the next month or so.
Still, side note on that Chicken Minestrone: (put in the work, about 2 hours and eat for days!!) here's the webpage: http://www.zonaware.com/ChickenMinestrone.htm

Back to it :)
1st CrossFit workout I've tried in a while. Life started getting in the way... but I also ran into a back problem in early August that caused muscles to pull "out" one of my ribs. I really tried to take it easy, get massage and drink tons of water while I was recouping. And man... those massages were NOT luxe at all - they were a lot of work, really deep DEEP tissue with much neck, shoulder, armpit and pectoral work... NOT COMFORTABLE AT ALL.
Needless to say... 1st day back and I'm feeling pretty good. Can't wait to see where I go from here :)
21, 18, 15, 12, 9, 6, 3 BURPEES
3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21 10lbs Kettlebell Swings
completed in 26:06 I really need to figure out how to do burpees in a fashion that saves time, energy and my poor bruised knees :*( I mean I did complete 84 Burpees today.... that's a ton!

Can't say much about tonights workout, except that it kicked my bum and I worked through it with a SERIOUS headache/migrane... and even after one hour, a shower, ton of water and food feeling REALLY bad... so probably can't make it to belly dancing which is a serious bummer.
anyhow, persevered through nearly 20mintues of "Noah": 19.11mins
5 round
200m row
10 pushups
10 good mornings 25lbs bar
10 (band assistant) pull ups
I hope after a nap, I can go to belly dance! I don't wanna miss it!

Happy Pre-Fourth of July!! Looking forward to an afternoon of MEEEE time! I lent Dan my Cherry Corolla S with AC for his work trip today so I'm car less and looking to accomplish some things around the house. Not that they are all SUPER constructive- but I'm including ones that make me happy too. :)
Got a workout in today at the open gym at CF2260. It was just Dan and Pat and myself. We worked on deadlifts. I'm really excited because this week was sort of a breakthrough week for me. I worked with the small bar again today, added weight to it. I was deadlifting 45lbs! Seems small but coming from ONLY working with a light as a feather PVC pipe, this is progress. It felt pretty good, don't want to over do it- so kept with the same weight, but I tried to do more reps near the end. I FEEL STRONGER. Afterwards when we were focusing on items we wanted to work on, Dan challenged me in my double unders. "Show me 50 double unders in a row and I'll buy you dinner". I tried so hard! The highest I got to was 40, but wound up completing something over 200+ in the time I attempted them. (And... I still think he'll take me to dinner! ;)
Now I'm gonna finish the last 50 pages of the most HILARIOUS book, Confessions of a Shopaholic and do some chores around the house. I also have the movie Donnie Darko I want to watch and return to Netflix. Started working on my budget for the month.... gotta say, I WILL be budgeting A LOT! No excess spending, as I ultimately can not afford it. So glad I have paid for belly dance for the next 9 weeks, have 4 used books (including shipping costs) coming in the mail for $15 total and many other activities to keep me preoccupied! I'll definitely find a new Christy over the next few months.... Excited, nervous and willing. I'm looking forward to our Huntington Beach vacation July 18-21 and REALLY working towards doing it on a dime- because that's pretty much all I've got :) New way of doing things, as I say!

Happy Pre-Fourth of July!!! It was such a fun "vacation" type atmosphere at work today... Tomorrow could be a longggg one awaiting the 3 day weekend.
I'm really hoping to relax and enjoy time at home, with family and friends, do some reading and catch up on my to do lists: guest room (since I moved in.. I'm SUCH a procrastinator- I KNOW!), finances, reading, organizing, writing letters, watching movies and JUST RELAXING. Ultimately, I'd love to get some exercise in too... we'll see if I can handle the heat for THAT one! ;)
CF tonight, I might go, but think that will be WAY too much right before belly dancing. I want to go with a clear mind and clear heart so I can dance, shimmy and exercise in the fashion that makes me feel best :)

Trying some more new exercises in my Crossfit workouts. Today, down at 2260 was 21-15-9 Push Press, Pull Ups and Push Ups.
We decided to scale the workout for me due to the heavy nature of the exercises.
10x3 Completed in: 8:34
push press (25lbs)
pull up (belt assist)
push ups
Also did a Tabatia Row workout- 20 seconds on, 10 second rest for 4 minutes. I got all the way down to an average row of 2:10 to 2:21!! My average is normally 2:26- 2:36, pretty impressive.

Open gym at Crossfit 2260 today. I did my first set of knees to elbows and my first set of "real" pull ups. There was a band attached to the bar that I stepped on, that allowed me to do pull ups that gave me the feeling of a real pull up. It was INTENSE... see how I feel tomorrow!
For time:
4 Rounds of
10 pull ups (with band assistance)
10 lunges (as walking lunges)
10 knees to elbows (got them up to about waist level)
I completed it in 9:17, with only 3 sets of pull ups- I was recommended to stop them at that point. See what happens next!

crossfit 2260 day :)
dan was instructing and he had us:
run 400m
21/18/15/12/9/6/3 of...
jumping pullups
situps
walking lunges
Completed in 15:03
2 min
tibata squats (20 seconds on, 10 seconds hold in squat position) i could not complete this bc my hip flexors were crunching and grinding to the point i was getting nauseated... i can totally do squats and have a great one, but i think those walking lunges killed me for it- bummer!

1st time group Crossfitting! yep, tonight was my first time going to Crossfit 2260 and working out with the other members. ironically dan was coaching tonight too and it went so well! i didn't even squeak out a, "thanks babe" like i normally would have.
it was brutal, not gonna lie... warm up, 400m run warm up and CINDY:
AMRAP in 20 minutes of:
5 jumping pullups
10 pushups
15 squats
i was able to complete 10 1/3. i know tomorrow and the next day will be ROUGH, so we'll see how belly dance goes tomorrow and i'll enjoy a delicious deep tissue massage on Thursday :)
but more than anything, i can't wait to get back into it. might even attend tomorrow if it is an easier workout before my dance class, i'll keep ya posted.

WOD: Tabata for 10 mins (20 seconds on, 10 seconds on for 2 minutes at each station)
4 Rounds of each:
Row
Pushups
Situps
Box Jumps
Squats
It was pretty brutal. Thankfully our friend Dan #2 came over to try out Crossfit... and we did some basics, trained him on some lifting and got into the nitty gritty. Followed up with a DELICIOUS lunch at San Tan Brewery and then Danny and I are making Lamb Shoulder and Peaches for his father for his birthday :) fun Sunday.... then to bed early for my first day of work for my first week TOMORROW!!!

Feelin' that workout... TONS today! I never thought I'd sweat from having to walk up and down one flight of stairs before, but the burn in my legs from those weighted squats yesterday are on FIRE!!!
CF WOD: 15 minute Yoga/stretch to start the day- the best way!
One hour intensive Belly Dance with Carmen and the girls... and believe me, my body IS NOT HAPPY with me today :*(
Workin' on keepin' it up :) Gotta persevere and work through this sore pain.

Gettin' back to it! After family vacation in PA and an insane amount of cheat meals... I'm working on gettin' back to it. Back in the zone, back to Crossfit and some positive ways to break up my day :)
I didn't complete the WOD today, but I did:
"Jackson" 20.10 min & seconds
3 Rounds for time:
15 Wall Ball 8lbs
15 Kettlebell Swings 18lbs (a new weight for me!)
15 Push Ups
15 Jumping Pull Ups
I need to work on my consistency again, as I know I could have done that workout in much better time. I haven't worked out in over a month....
But it was my first time checking out Crossfit 2260 in Gilbert, so I can't wait to go work out there again! Thanks Dan- it's MUCH cooler than our garage....

Happy Tax Day! Glad mine were completed before and the money extracted from my account so no worries :)
Been a LONG day... and I'm really looking forward to belly dancing to cheer me up! But no doubt I'll be seriously lectured... I haven't danced in nearly two weeks because I missed it last week to celebrate my parents 31st wedding anniversary. I know Mahin didn't mind, but my body will tell me otherwise, I'M SURE!

WOD CF: for time (19.40mins)
21, 18, 15, 12, 9, & 6 each of ring row, situps and 50 ft lounges
I'll have to look back at my previous times to compare. Felt pretty good about it, but noticed my intensity is slower than usual... need to get back on the workout band wagon!

Last night I attended the downtown Chandler Farmers Market and tomorrow I'll check out the Downtown Phoenix Farmers Market. I was so excited to accomplish what I was looking for: to gather some of the freshest homegrown veggies and fruits I could find :D I'm hoping to find some yummy apples or cider if I can... but I doubt it.
I've been working in the Zone quite a bit lately, but my final meal of the day has been falling off the Zone wagon. Wednesday I HAD to stop by Golden Spoon for some delish Peanut Butter Cup yogurt with chocolate caramel cups in it :) Yesterday while I was downtown with Tina, we stopped by SanTan Brewery and did our Crossfit workout by downing 20 oz glasses of Hefeweisen and complimenting them with arm curls. Tonight Danny is making DELISH stuffed pork chops from our local butcher with gravy and asapargus in lemon butter sauce. What a treat!
I am super stoked it is the weekend!!

Pre-April Fools Day workout... considering I'll be causing trouble and joking all over the board on the first ;) NOT!
4 rounds for time:
500m row
25 double unders (apparently I need Danny G there for good luck on these, without him- it took 4 times to get them started which is a HUGE change!!)
25 abmat situps
completed in 20.58, beat previous record from 2/6 of 22.22.
Was back in the Zone on Monday and Tuesday... but Danny G convinced me to have some delish pizza from Rosatis for dinner. I <3 cheat meals: thin crust pizza with sausage, mushroom and green bell peppers. It was a nice relaxing evening of Biggest Loser, puppy love and kitty love.
Wednesday night... BELLY DANCING!! It will be interesting to see what Mahin throws at us this week... especially after my dreadful dancing on Saturday night at Efes!... ok, it wasn't THAT bad, but I need some serious work!

The Weekend!
I'm super excited the weekend is upon us :) Had the opportunity to spend time with my family, friends and hopefully I'll get to see some AMAZING belly dancing tonight!
Tonight at Efes in Tempe off McClintock and Guadelupe Mahin is performing with some amazing musicians. It will be great music, food, drink, dance and company- I'm really excited!
Working in some Zone diet, in between the odd cheat meals. Also spending time with the puppy and kitty, while enjoying Christy time- trying to get through Eclipse!
Enjoy your weekend too :)

Mr & Mrs Henry Collins! 3-20-09
yesterday was quite a busy one!! enjoyed a half day of work, couple of hours of the cubbies spring training game with Dan and his family (Amy's birthday wish, Sherry, Tony and Conrad Poer) and Dan and I attended Mr Henry & Mrs Emily Collins wedding :)
the wedding was at the Phoenix Zoo in Phoenix AZ. it was a beautiful, family, friends and love filled ceremony near sunset in the "savanna". with Em's sister Jessi as the officiant we enjoyed a short ceremony filled with warmth and love. instead of the traditional unity candle/ sand pouring, em and Henry gave each other's mothers single roses with ribbons tied as the signature color of the event: green and brown. once announced Mr and Mrs Henry Collins they walked down the aisle together to: "somewhere over the rainbow" covered by: Israel Kamakawiwo'ole- a gorgeous version of the song using a Hawaiian sound and ukulele. at the end the did a little dance step and circled back around for another romantic kiss.
we were then ushered to another location of the zoo by the Spider Monkeys :) and were greeted by a staff member holding a desert lizard and another staff member holding a grey horned hoot owl named Annie, one of the oldest "show" animals of the park for over 12 years. we had entered the "forest of uco" to enjoy the wedding reception to follow. a delicious feast of mexican food was served, great music, wonderful family and friends and you are reading from a VERY HAPPY recipient of the bouquet toss!! i most CERTAINLY went for those flowers! ;) Dan was extremely "enthusiastic" about my victory...... just kidding. but it was ok! i was excited! we left the event after a long day, bringing with us the brilliant take aways- pieces of mexican tile with rubber stoppers glued to the bottom as coasters, signed Emily & Henry Collins and our centerpiece: the circle of friends- which this week i was really fortunate to enjoy a great deal of.
thank you everyone, for such a wonderful beginning to the weekend!
